I love this picture. It was the only item I requested from my Gramma’s house when she passed away in 2009. Of course, I received countless other items, trinkets, and furniture as well, but this was the first and only thing that came to mind when I was asked what I would like. I have always loved it and I have a memory of looking at it with my cousins and my Gramma, and them saying that it looked like me. I don’t know much about it other than it is called “Charity Begins at Home”. It stands out a little more nicely with the walls newly painted.
I am still surrounded by animals and as I write this Poppy is valiantly defending her snack from our own wicked dogs! Full circle.
I spent the day painting. My painting style is usually driven and frantic, but today I worked slowly and rather patiently except for one moment where I cursed a stubborn nail in the baseboard. The kids were good for the most paart; they tore the front room apart and Poppy worked on her drawing styles that seem to be evolving quickly into more detailed portraits of people and the odd octopus (aka apple-puss if you’re Silas). Instead of powering through and stopping only for snacks, I slowed down and made a good warm lunch for us all to enjoy. I did each section to completion and then moved everything back before I moved to the next section. I finished a good amount and still had the house tidied and supper on the table! I felt a little like super woman.
The paint is a lovely fresh colour. It is called “Facial” which is quite accurate, but entirely unromantic to me so have changed it to “Sea Pottery”. Yes that name will do just fine. We like it and I was even surprised by Mike’s enthusiasm for it. I had planned to paint the door white, but we kind of like the contrast of the wood. We shall see.
